ABOUT 1741 Forstall Street

1741 Forstall Street is a residential parcel of land in the Lower 9th Ward that was acquired over the course of two years by artist Kevin Beasley. This is a corner lot that combines two former lots and prior to Beasley’s acquisition, it was adjudicated in 2008 and sold at auction in 2018 through Civic Source. This site is both everyday––one of many property lots in the area––and a space of potential that will be transformed over the course of the triennial (and far beyond). In the fall of 2021 Beasley and the stormwater management company Mastadonte began the process of clearing this site and developing three core initiatives on the property—water establishment, an electricity hub, and permaculture, a self-sustaining agricultural ecosystem.

There is free WiFi on site and there will be a drinking fountain, public seating, and other amenities as the project develops. Visitors to the site should feel free to enter it and explore, and to experience it as it continues to grow and evolve. All visitors acknowledge that they enter at their own risk and hold Kevin Beasley Studio LLC. & Prospect New Orleans harmless against any and all incidents or injuries. Please wear appropriate footwear.
