P.5 Neighborhoods

New Orleans is a small city with many neighborhoods. The neighborhoods listed below attempt to reflect the history of the city’s growth, starting at the Mississippi River eventually reaching the shores of Lake Pontchartrain. When visiting the exhibition, we recommend starting at The Hancock Whitney Welcome Center at the New Orleans African American Museum in the Tremé. It is best to organize your visits to venues by the neighborhoods below, grouping adjacent neighborhoods into one trip. For example, if you plan to visit the UNO Gallery, located within the Faubourg Marigny, we recommend also visiting venues within the Marigny and Bywater (Upper Ninth). While there are several ways to explore the city, we recommend allotting 2–3 days to experience the entire exhibition.
