About Happyland Theater
A performance venue and movie theater located in the Bywater, Happyland regularly features film, theater, fashion, art, and musical performances, and is probably best known for its four-day Vaude D’Gras celebration. The theater’s colorful façade features a now iconic bright-pink and purple mural of a Louisiana gator. Previously vacant for decades, having been abandoned sometime during the 1950s, the property was purchased by the current owner Jeff Mattsson. Since their first Vaude D’Gras celebration in 2016, Happyland has and continues to hold space for community celebration and expression.
