About the Exhibition

Generic Art Solutions presents Face Value: The Illusions of Power and Money, an exhibition that explores the power structures surrounding money and the trust that we place in the institutions that create currency. Through the examination of tropes of wealth and influence, the promise of the American Dream, and the gambler’s persistent belief in luck, this exhibition will examine the history of minting coins at the old New Orleans Mint. As part of this interactive exhibition, the artists intend to “mint” new coins.

About the Organizers

History as a lens to examine power and its corruption has been a recurring theme in the work of Generic Art Solutions, a collaborative effort of Matt Vis and Tony Campbell. This New Orleans–based duo utilizes nearly every art medium as they examine the recurring themes of human drama and the (dis)functions of contemporary society. Always rooted in the performative, they play every character in their work.
